ONLY 20 PLAYERS TO GET CENTRAL CONTRACTS

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board has decided in principle to only give central contacts to 20 top performing players but will not carry out any “major surgery” in its cricket system.

The PCB Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi had stressed on the need to carry out a “major surgery” in Pakistan cricket after the national team flopped badly in the recent World T20 Cup in USA and were eliminated in the first round.

But according to a creditable source with new head coaches in place for future assignments and after deliberations the board has decided against taking any drastic measures like sidelining senior players.

“A few like Shaheen Shah Afridi might be rested for the test series against Bangladesh starting this month but all senior players are in line to play for the national team including Babar and Rizwan,” the source said.

“The one major outcome from the World Cup debacle will be that the central contracts which are currently held by around 25-27 players would now only be given to players who meet all fitness and performance criteria standards which have nearly been finalised with input from Jason Gillispie and Gary Kirsten and the selectors,” the source added.
